Majority of people in Pakistan are living in a joint family system where they have elderly individuals suffering from different chronic diseases, who are the most vulnerable group in this pandemic. We recommend that patients suffering from breast cancer or any chronic medical conditions should isolate themselves from others no matter someone is infected around them or not. On the other hand, people who go out for work should maintain distance and take special care that they do not carry and transfer the disease.
people who develop coronavirus symptoms are recommended to perform self-isolation. People who are self-isolating with or without symptoms need to understand some basics so that they can avoid mistakes while self-isolation.
You just do no sperate yourself from other people but also separate everything you use daily such as household items, utensils, kitchen and bathroom etc. if the separate bathroom is not available then people who are affected with corona should clean the bathroom thoroughly after using it if they are able to do otherwise they should ask someone to clean it after wearing mask and gloves. Do not forget to use separate towels from other household members.
You should not share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, bedding or other items with other people in your home when you have used them (or after the infected person you are caring for has used them). Don’t use the kitchen when others are present but if you have to use it then follow the basic rules such as using mask and gloves, don’t interact with others and take your meal back to your room. Use a dishwasher or detergent to wash your used crockery and cutlery thoroughly and ask others not to use it.
If you are infected cover your cough and sneeze possibly with a disposable tissue and waste it immediately after using. Always wash your hands with soap for 20 sec after coughing and sneezing even if you think no particles or droplets are on your hands. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as well as other people at home with unwashed hands.
Do not invite or allow visitors to enter. If it is really urgent to speak to someone who is not a member of the household you can talk over the phone. You must also avoid contact with pets if you can’t keep away from pets wash your hands before and after touching them.
Clothes can transfer the disease from one person to another so everyone who is coming from out of the home should wash his/her clothes right away. Wear disposable gloves and a plastic apron and wash laundry with laundry detergent at the highest temperature compatible for the fabric. Clean all surfaces and the area around the washing machine and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling dirty laundry. Iron your clothes after washing using the highest setting compatible with the fabric.
All waste that has been in contact with the infected person, including used tissues, masks and disposable material should be put in a plastic bag and tied it. Put that bag into another bin bag and tied it too.
If these recommendations cannot be implemented, then home isolation should be avoided.
